Why Extreme Automatics? We are the Premier 2004R Builder in the industry. In this section we are going to explain some details on our product and compare our 2004R product to the competitors product as advertised. You decide. The BS items Listed in Red. Advantage listed in Green.



What makes the EA 2004R? Some details on the build.

Pump - The EA pump is the heart of the build. You must have consistent pressure and volume for the 200 to live. We start with a stock Gm core. We parallel deck the pump halves 90deg of centerline and set the rotor and slide clearance at the minimum. We then plate lap the halves flat to less than .00001" to eliminate and possibility of and cross leaks. There is no lathe or mill that can achieve this. We drill the pump drain, Replace and stake the pump bushing. The guys who say they use a new GM pump are at a huge disadvantage. We use quality pump parts for the assembly including a Harden stator in every transmission we build. We use our exclusive pump slide spring, PR spring, PR valve and boost valves. This produces a pump that will provide 275lb + line pressure and plenty of volume. No other builder we know of has this capability. Some say this is over kill. We believe this is just one reason we build a superior product.

Internals - We replace all seals, gaskets, bushings, roller bearings. We rebuild front, rear and overdrive planets in every transmission using new thrust washers, bearing and pinions. We rolerize the low roller center support to remove the plastic thrust. We also roller the rear planet to remove the plastic low roller washer that is prone to failure. Harden sun gear shell in every unit. We surface grind the direct drum so it perfectly round. We weld the direct sun shell contact area and heat treat  to prevent future wear. We use the HD low roller clutch v/s the after market std. duty that most all use.

Clutches - Od 3 clutch, Direct 7 clutch, Forward 5 clutch, LR 7 clutch.  Hi carbon Band is always installed in every unit.  We use Hi energy performance friction and metallic fiber frictions in all units.

BTO High Performance Street - $1395.00

Our Level Two Transmissions have all the wonderful features of our Level One Transmission, but their built to handle more horsepower and feature firmer and quicker shifts. These units are still quite street able, however, they should be installed into performance oriented cars and trucks. They will handle a steady diet of around 450/500 hp and 400/450 ft/lbs. of torque. This Level Transmission is definitely a huge step up from what the popular brand name companies offer (according to their descriptions) and they still charge more! We have sold thousands of this Level Transmission over the last seven years with tremendous success. They have proven to be very reliable and tough in serious street performance vehicles.

Our Level Two Transmissions feature all the components and modifications built into our
Level One Transmission plus the following upgrades:
? New overrun and low/reverse sprag clutches.
? Our own custom machined billet servo with 11% larger surface area than Grand National servos.
? New hardened steel stator shaft.

You can see side by side this competitors best unit still does not compare to our entry level unit at $300 less money. I was going to compare the stage 2 but that would be a blow out.



BTO Extreme Duty Street / Strip

In order to raise performance above the Level Two units, the input shaft/drum and sun shell assembly
strength must be addressed. Anyone who has built serious Th-2004R Transmissions has, at some time experienced failure of one or more of these components. Our Level Two Transmissions parts have proven to be reliable to the torque levels described in Level Two and our return rate demonstrates this. We experience less than 1% failure on our Level Two units.

Once you get into these engine torque and horsepower levels above the Level Two Transmissions, the input shaft to drum connection point becomes prone to fracture and the spline section will start ripping off the sun shell. Our Level Three Transmissions have the following parts added for increased strength and reliability above 450 hp and 450 ft/lbs. of torque. These components are specifically engineered to help prevent breakage in applications with exceptionally stout motors. Details of these parts can be seen at www.extreme-duty.com.
While the late model factory sun shells are definitely a big improvement, they are certainly not up to the hard core use that our sun shells are built for. Our Level Three Transmission includes the following upgrades from Level Two: Heavy duty input shaft/drum assembly, the reinforced sun shell package and fourth gear servo. These parts will live at horsepower and torque levels over 60% greater than the stock components are able to tolerate!

2004R Lesson 101. I have no idea what these guys are talking about but its not a 2004R. Its looks like a copy and paste of 4L60 info. The 2004R input shaft in no way connects to the sun gear shell. The input is attached to the OD planet and then OD ring gear that drives the forward drum that drives the output shaft. The Direct drum is the contact point for the sun gear shell. All the power goes threw the Forward drum. That's one reason we stress the importance of a billet forward drum. The forward drum is the most common part to fail in the 2004R under power. The servo has nothing to do with 4th gear its only used for 2nd. The 4L60E uses servo for 4th gear. I am sure they were thinking the customer will not to know the difference.

    What are you getting from those guys? What are you getting if you do not add the HI PO frictions? I build units for a living and I have never seen Hi performance frictions as an add on.


    This high performance Grand National type 200-4R comes with a larger than stock intermediate billet servo which gives firmer 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. This Superior / Fairbanks servo has an 11% larger apply area than the Grand National servo. It comes with the Mega Valve that raises the fluid pressure and gives a firmer shift and more holding power in all the gears, elevated pressure regulator spring, high output pump slide spring and an oversize low / reverse boost valve. These are the valves you?ve heard about. All of our high performance 200-4R transmissions come with a high performance Transgo shift kit installed and a heat treated sun gear shell. The stock seven-vane pump is replaced with a thirteen-vane high performance / high volume pump. Included is a 4th gear converter lock-up switch. The stock intermediate band is replaced with a black carbon fiber band. Also included in this package deal is a heavy-duty balanced stall converter that has furnace-brazed fins, a Sonnax carbon fiber clutch and needle bearings for added strength (#2). This stall converter can be ordered with stall speeds of 1800, 2000, 2300, 2600 or 2800 RPM and gives a faster launch than a stock converter. It also comes with a universal-fit throttle-valve cable and dip stick. The 200-4R transmission will fit all GM motors that have full size bell housings. This is a perfect choice, if you have a non-Chevy motor. You can expect a 30 to 40% increase in gas mileage (over a 3-speed) on the road. Every Transmission Tester on the PATC Dyno. Good for motors up to 400 horse power using pump gasoline, see chart below. Add torque converter and hard shaft upgrades if needed.

    Its very hard to compare when this vendor does not list parts to compare. Has this company had any success? Do your home work. You will find they have nothing to offer but the fancy website. Once again I will compare my stage 1 to their best unit. Not listed is the add-on to the $1690 sale price You can go directly to their website to get each but I will list them to make it easier

  • Finally a Little competition. They are not very clear as to what is installed. I chose once again to compare the Stage 1 as the HP is comparable to what they advertise. The Stage 2 will handle much more than they advertise.



    Performabilt

    This Transmission is suitable for applications to 500+ hp, and bolts to The Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac and Cadillac (or BOP pattern engines).

    Its features include the following components and modifications (Nothing but the best):

    1. High Performance rebuild kit with additional frictions where possible Frictions are Alto, Raybestos and Allomatic performance. Special attention is given to the direct 3rd clutch.

    2. A hardened sun shell is installed, eliminating the weak area of the transmission. We also replace the factory plastic thrust washer with a brass one, eliminating melt down and breakage issues with this washer.

    3. A wide red lining band, with reinforced band pin area is mated to a resurfaced drum for max hold.

    4. A Superior Super Servo is used to assure adequate apply, and special modifications are done during installation to reduce the downshift clunk associated with these large servos. Between the wide band above and the super servo holding is increased up to 50 percent over stock in second gear.

    6. We use heavy duty front and rear sprags (one way roller clutch assemblies) to make sure this unit will take the torque.

    7. We modified TCC apply to provide stronger engagement of the lockup clutch, and to enhance the increased durability of the higher (3000 up) stall torque converters if used. This modification also improves the life of any stall converter from stock up.

    8. These transmissions have a PerformaBuilt Performance shift kit installed, and will have very positive shifts, which become progressively more aggressive as throttle is increased. No accumulators are blocked causing unnecessary strain in normal driving, but it still delivers that kick ass feel under throttle.

    This unit also features many other modifications for performance and durability, helping it achieve its 500 plus horsepower capabilities. This transmission will take whatever you can dish out and we guarantee it! You won't find a better unit anywhere.
