We strive to build the best TH400 Automatic Transmission money can buy. The Valvebody is the heart of the transmission. We are not happy with "it works" We want the best. We use exclusively Griner Billet Aluminum Valvebodies. The Griner provides superior transmission operation. The Griner has faster shift times, transbrake release so fast its instant. The Griner Valvebody was designed from a clean sheet of paper so the hydraulic circuitry is perfect. The Griner is not restricted to the use of the factory passages so shifts are clean and lightning fast. Clutches live at much lower line pressure. The Cast Iron Valvebody cannot be modified to provide superior transmission operation. The cast iron VB is restricted to small passages and requires the fluid path to snake threw the factory casting in some cases several times. No magic clutch or line pressure will correct this. Hi gear clutch life can be a problem so can slow brake release, band failure, premature sprag failure. Shift times that can be as slow as .7 and RPM rise as high as 1000 rpm before the shift completes on some models. This fact is upsetting to some builders. There are some better than others but none that compare to the Griner. Even if you choose a competitor to build your 400. Specify you want the Griner Valvebody as part of your build. If you choose a Cast iron VB you will only get something that just works.

I was forced to remove the side by side comparison on the TH400. If you have specs on a builders unit I would be glad to talk about the a side by side comparison on the phone.
